Inside the Marsh & Co Process

Preparing for an interior design transformation is an exciting journey, and it all starts with your first visit to our design studio. Located in the heart of North Sheffield, our Fox Valley showroom is a creative space designed to inspire, for any project from a simple dining room redesign to a complete bespoke restoration. The studio is filled with luxury fabrics, bespoke furniture examples, and the latest in home automation. Anything you need to start off your home, office or small business transformation is here for you to view.

To help you get the most out of your time with our designers, we’ve put together this guide on what to expect from our process and how you can prepare for your initial consultation.

Understanding the Marsh & Co. Approach

Our process is built on four key pillars designed to take your project from a spark of inspiration to a master-built reality.

Stage 1: The Consultation

This is the "getting to know you phase. Whether in-studio, online or at your home, this one-to-one session is about understanding your lifestyle, your likes, and your dislikes. We discuss your goals, review your architectural plans, and establish an initial budget. Once this meeting is complete, we should have a clear understanding on the next stage and know what direction you want to go in.

How to prepare: Think about how you use your space. Is it for entertaining? Is it a sanctuary for relaxation? Identifying the purpose of the room is just as important as the look.

Stage 2: Design & Planning

Once we have a clear brief, we move into the technical phase. This is where your vision begins to take a structural form. At this stage, we provide a written document outlining our design fees and a project estimate to ensure total transparency.

A crucial part of this stage involves our designers coming directly into your home. While initial ideas are born in the studio, the real magic happens when we can experience your space firsthand. By visiting your home, our team can:

Get a True Feel for the Space: We observe the natural light, the architectural flow, and the unique character of your property that photos alone can’t capture.

Take Precision Measurements: We don't rely on guesswork. Our designers take "real-world" measurements to ensure every bespoke cabinet, piece of furniture, and window treatment fits with millimeter precision.

Align with Architectural Designs: If you are working on a renovation or extension, we cross-reference our findings with your architectural plans. This ensures our designs are not only beautiful but technically accurate and perfectly tailored to the structural realities of your home.

How to prepare: Have any existing architectural drawings or building plans ready for us to review during the visit. This helps us align our creative concepts with the technical requirements of your build.

Stage 3: Visualisation & Tactile Choice

Before we dive into the digital world, we start with the senses. We use physical sample boards and moodboards to let you touch and feel the textures of the fabrics, wallpapers, and finishes.

The Iterative Process: This tactile stage allows you to choose what feels right and make changes multiple times before the design takes its final shape.

3D Visualisation: Once the palette is agreed upon, we develop photorealistic 3D renders. This gives you a "real-life" view of your finished space. To ensure it is absolutely perfect, we offer up to three revisions on design and layout changes, giving you total peace of mind before any work begins.

How to Prepare: Look at inspiration images, fabrics and furniture, to get a deeper understanding on what you want. You can send us links to these or bring them in for our sample boards.

Stage 4: Manufacture & Install

We aren't just designers; we are makers. Most of our cabinetry, upholstery, and soft furnishings are handcrafted right here in our Yorkshire workshops. Our specialist team handles everything from the "Big Reveal" to the final disposal of packaging.

How to prepare: Clear the workspace and get ready to relax! We handle the heavy lifting and the fine details.

What to Bring to Your Initial Studio Meeting

To help us hit the ground running during your first visit to Fox Valley, we recommend bringing the following:

1. Visual Inspiration

A picture speaks a thousand words. Whether it’s a Pinterest board, a collection of Instagram saves, or pages torn from a magazine, show us what catches your eye. Don't worry if the styles seem mismatched—our designers are experts at finding the common thread that defines your personal taste.

2. Your Colour Palette Ideas

Are you leaning towards moody, atmospheric tones or bright, airy neutrals? Bring along any paint swatches you’re considering or even a piece of clothing or an object that has a colour you love. We have an extensive library of designer wallpapers and fabrics to help match your vision.

3. Floor Plans or Measurements

If you have architectural drawings or rough sketches with measurements, please bring them along. This helps us understand the scale of the project immediately and allows us to give more accurate advice on furniture placement and spatial flow.

4. Your "Wish List" for Furnishings

Think about the specific items you are looking for. Are you after:

  • Soft Furnishings: Bespoke curtains, specialist blinds, or handmade cushions?

  • Furniture: A custom-built media wall, a signature sofa, or perhaps a dining table that fits your family perfectly?

  • Flooring & Walls: Are you looking for high-class decorating, luxury carpets, or unique wallcoverings?

5. Photos of the Current Space

Take a few quick snaps of the room as it is now on your phone. Seeing the current lighting, existing features, and even the "problem areas" helps us provide solutions that are both beautiful and practical.

Design Tip: Don't worry if your ideas feel unfinished. Our job is to take those sparks of inspiration and refine them into a cohesive, master-built reality.

We are with our clients every step of the way. From the first sketch to the final styling, we ensure the design process, installation, and staging are all completed with absolute peace of mind. As your dedicated project managers, we handle every detail so you can simply sit back, relax, and watch the magic happen.

Whether you want to refresh one room or transform an entire house, we are your go to designers for a personal stress-free design journey.
