Upholstery &
Restoration
Maybe you love the comfort of your existing furniture but it’s looking tired and jaded? Or perhaps you want to restore an antique to its former glory?
At Marsh & Co. we have your ideal solution… Our high class upholstery and re-upholstery service is available across Yorkshire, offering a fabulous choice of fabrics, leathers and faux leathers. It’s your chance to revive your much-loved chair or sofa and turn it into a stunning and unique design feature!
We also specialise in Bespoke upholstered furniture, French polishing and restoration.
What’s involved?
Our expert craftspeople begin by carefully dismantling your furniture to inspect and, where necessary, repair or replace frames, springs and internal components. We then produce bespoke coverings from your chosen fabrics and fit them with precision and attention to detail. All fabrics we use comply with current UK fire safety regulations.
Typical lead time for reupholstery is six to eight weeks. When we have your piece in our workroom, the on-site refurbishment usually takes no more than 14 days. Loan furniture can be provided for the interim period on request.

5. Upholstery & Bespoke Furniture
-
Re-upholstery is the process of reviving your existing furniture. We strip the piece down to the frame, inspect and repair the springs and paddings, and recover it in a fresh designer fabric.
Bespoke Upholstery involves creating a brand-new piece of furniture exclusively for you. You choose the exact size, shape, comfort level, and fabric, and we build it from the frame up in our Yorkshire workshop.
-
Yes. We specialize in both traditional and modern upholstery techniques. For antique pieces, we use traditional methods like hand-tied springs and natural stuffings to preserve the chair's historical integrity. For modern pieces, we focus on high-performance foams and contemporary silhouettes. We also offer French polishing and frame repairs to ensure the structural "bones" of your furniture are as beautiful as the fabric.
-
We highly recommend one. Selecting upholstery fabric is different from choosing curtains; it requires a focus on durability (Martindale rub count) as well as aesthetics. In our Fox Valley studio, you can explore thousands of specialist upholstery fabrics from Romo, Zoffany, and Morris & Co. We will help you select a material that isn't just stunning but is also fit for your lifestyle—whether that’s a high-traffic family lounge or a delicate bedroom accent.
-
For re-upholstery, the typical lead time is 6–8 weeks. However, once your piece arrives at our workshop, the physical refurbishment usually takes around 14 days. For entirely bespoke furniture commissions, the process from design approval to delivery is approximately 8 weeks.
-
The easiest way is to send us a photo of your existing piece via WhatsApp (07881 377389) or email. Include a few rough measurements and an idea of the style you’re looking for. We can then provide an initial estimate. For bespoke furniture, we recommend a studio appointment to discuss the specific dimensions and comfort requirements.
-
Absolutely. All fabrics used in our workshop comply with current UK Fire Safety Regulations. We ensure that fabrics are either inherently fire-retardant or are treated/interlined correctly to meet domestic or contract upholstery standards.
-
If your existing sofa has a solid hardwood frame, re-upholstering is almost always the better investment. Modern "high-street" sofas often use plywood or chipboard frames that lack longevity. By re-upholstering, you are keeping a high-quality frame out of a landfill and creating a unique, designer piece that will last for another 10–20 years.
-
At Marsh & Co, we specialize in comprehensive restoration and full re-upholstery rather than minor cosmetic repairs. Our process is designed to ensure the longevity and structural integrity of a piece for years to come. Therefore, we do not undertake small "patch" repairs, individual spring fixes, or simple seam restitching. Instead, we offer a complete service where we strip the furniture back to its frame, ensuring the "hidden" components: the webbing, springs, and paddings, are all renewed to our exacting professional standards.
-
If you can imagine it, we can manufacture it. Our bespoke upholstery service allows you to commission unique furniture tailored to your exact comfort, size, and style requirements. Popular commissions include:
Custom Sofas & Armchairs: From modern "modular" seating to traditional Howard-style sofas.
Bespoke Headboards: Any height, shape, or fabric, including integrated lighting or deep-buttoned detailing.
Dining Seating: Including upholstered dining chairs and bespoke fitted bench or booth seating for kitchens and restaurants.
Occasional Pieces: Footstools, ottomans, and upholstered "blanket boxes" to complement your bedroom or lounge scheme.
Chaise Longues & Daybeds: Elegant statement pieces designed to fit a specific alcove or window bay.
-
Yes. We work with many commercial clients in the hospitality and retail sectors. For these projects, we ensure all fabrics and paddings meet strict Crib 5 Fire Safety standards and utilize high-performance fabrics designed for thousands of "rubs" in high-traffic environments.
