The Brief

At MARSH & CO., we specialise in creating dramatic architectural interiors that merge form and function. For this residential makeover in Blackburn, our design focuses on the property's unique sunken lounge (conversation pit) and integrated glass-roofed sunroom.

A deep U-shaped olive velvet sectional sofa anchors the space, creating an inviting subterranean sanctuary. We utilized bespoke joinery to create oak-clad steps with recessed LED perimeter lighting, casting a warm amber glow that defines the transition between levels.

The lounge is complemented by a custom media wall featuring walnut paneling with brass inlays and ambient backlighting. Large-format stone flooring provides a sophisticated base, balanced by the tactile warmth of a high-pile shag rug and mustard-plus-sage cushions. In the sunroom, a bespoke floating banquette in dove-grey suede connects the interior comfort with the ethereal floral mural and sky-lit views, making this the ultimate space for both work and evening entertaining
